Texas Bird Watching & Wildlife Photography

Our Texas Bird Watching and Wildlife ranch, the Wendlandt ranch, is a 1000 acre ranch located on the beautiful Colorado river. We have been operating our rustic bed and breakfast since 2001. For the Birding Enthusiast, we have over 110 species of birds (click birds to see recent photos). In addition to Bird Watching, Wildlife photography has started to take off at the Wendlandt ranch. Texas Wildlife photography professionals and amateurs alike have taken to the gorgeous surroundings and stunning natural beauty of our ranch. Our wildlife includes deer, raccoons, birds, wild turkeys, foxes, bobcats, and coyotes. Whether Bird watching or photographing wildlife, we know you will enjoy your stay. If you are looking to getaway from the hustle of everyday life, we believe you will have a relaxing and wonderful experience at our ranch. We would love to have you!

- The Wendlandt Ranch, known for Texas Bird Watching (click on link to see photos), has brand new Wildlife pictures! They include 2 Baby Great Horned Owls, 3 Baby Great Blue Herons, a Red Tailed Hawk and Painted Bunting, all recently photographed at Riverside Birding by Jess and Peggy Thompson of Cottonwood Photography.

– The maiden voyage opening the Wendlandt Wildlife Ranch to bird watchers began in 2004 and continues in 2007. Birders have an opportunity to explore the 1000 acre Wendlandt Wildlife Ranch in Central Texas on the Colorado River. Serenity, peace, rest and the splendor of nature are just the beginning of what this gorgeous Central Texas Ranch has to offer.

– A charming well-preserved historic home, built in 1913, awaits you. The 2-story frame house has a large wrap-around porch excellent for bird watching or just relaxing. The home is surrounded by a cottage garden of native Texas plants that attracts an interesting variety of birds as well as an abundant array of butterflies.

– From the wrap-around porch, bird watchers can enjoy three bird houses bustling with purple martins starting in March, and listen to the buzz of the hummingbirds as they negotiate for the best nectar sipping spot on numerous feeders all day long from March to August. Numerous feeders provide seed for cardinals, finches, sparrows, titmice, chickadees, dove, quail and woodpeckers. Occasionally, viewers will catch a glimpse of wild turkey or deer casually making their way through pastures nearby.

– You will enjoy leisurely walking along six different trails that wind for more than 12 miles across oak-covered hillsides, picturesque mesquite flats, and open meadows. Your walk may take you along the banks of the meandering Colorado River and/or Buffalo Creek. A marked map is provided to each bird watching guest upon arrival.

– Enjoying the bird life such as nesting red-tailed hawks, nesting blue herons, nesting caracaras & nesting road runners is one reason you come to the Wendlandt Wildlife Ranch. 100 + species of birds have been observed on the ranch, and the Wendlandts invite their guests to add to the list. Painted buntings arrive in large numbers around May 1. Click here to see the Wendlandt Wildlife Ranch Life List.
